Engraved Plastic Name Tags
Engraved name tags are one of the most durable name badges you can purchase. Because they are made of two pieces of tough plastic, this type of name tag can take a lot of punishment. Unlike metal name tags, engraved name tags made of plastic don't scratch very easily and they hang on through the wear and tear that many workers put them though. They survive repeated stints through the washing machine and dryer when an employee forgets to take off the badge before the laundry process.They look fresh and new even after being squashed against a stack of boxes the employee carries from one area to another. And, they survive being poked with pens and written on by markers because they can easily be cleaned of accumulated dirt so they look great year after year.
Engraved name tags are made by putting two different colored pieces of plastic together so they form two layers. An engraving machine equipped with rotary cutters of various sizes etches the surface (top) layer to reveal the color of the bottom layer of plastic (the core). The name badge can also be engraved digitally which allows for the use of a bigger range of type styles. Digital engraving also means a business owner can choose from a wider variety of colors and can have their logo reproduced down to the tiniest detail, so their engraved name tags will be unique to their company instead of looking like they were mass-produced.
There are a couple of things to consider when creating engraved name tags:
- put a magnetic holder on the name tag instead of a pin-type fastener. The magnetic-backed name tag won't ruin clothing if the name badge is caught on something and pulled off.
- be sure your logo is prominent and the employees' name and position are displayed on the name tag. Customers in your office supply store don't want to talk to the waiter (also wearing a name tag) who popped in after work to pick up some envelopes and they might feel silly if they accidentally asked a non-employee for help. Also many customers don't want to "bother" people and will leave if they can't readily find a store employee.
- think about the baby-boomers and their potentially failing eye sight! Don't make your font too flowery or too small or people won't be able to read your engraved name tags! A customer should be able to read the name badge from about two steps back from the employee.
- Most name tags are worn on the left, but your name tag will be more visible during a handshake and greeting if your employees wear their badges on the right.

Is an artist's "vision" primarily a product of experience or imagination? I don't want to pursue the simple answer that it's both. Is it primarily one or the other, of if it's just plain old both, how do they interact to create an imaginary world?
