Men’s Colognes and Fragrances
Most of the men's fragrances can come under the cologne category, and only aftershaves are an exception. Is men’s perfume different from cologne? Generally but not completely, both types of products contain a combination of a solvent and perfume oils, which is quite often known as ethanol. However, percentage wise colognes fall within 2 to 5 percent range of perfume oil, while common scents or fragrances can contain up to 40- aromatic compounds or percent perfume oil. Aftershave is the only fragrance less, or "splash," whose aromatic compounds concentration is less than 2 percent. Although some cologne perfume sets are available with the aftershave in along with proper cologne, most fragrances for men are of low-key compared to women’s fragrances.
Cologne is named after the German city where it originated and contains basic composition. Traditionally, colognes are based on spice or citrus, which explains why most of the existing men's fragrances have a combination of amber-spice-lavender or distinctly smell of bergamot. Many types of cologne begin with a citrus template, and this covers tangerine, lemon, bergamot, orange, grapefruit, and lime and neroli notes. The other alternative is colognes that are spice-based with thyme, lavender and jasmine notes.
A body of cologne is developed much like a perfume, with a base, middle and top, the base even appears 30 minutes after the cologne is sprayed. All these three parts are influenced by each other, with the top notes showing up first when the cologne is sprayed. Traditionally, perfumes and colognes and fall under the same classifications of single floral, amber, wood, bouquet, chypre, leather and fougere. Wood and leather perfumes are more common with colognes, with patchouli as a variation on tobacco and wood or a leather scent. With grass-scented or aqua colognes that are available in the market, these ancient time classifications is now expanded to bright floral, green, fruity, aquatic gourmand and citrus fragrances.

Is an artist's "vision" primarily a product of experience or imagination? I don't want to pursue the simple answer that it's both. Is it primarily one or the other, of if it's just plain old both, how do they interact to create an imaginary world?
