Say THANK YOU! It's quick, inexpensive, makes you feel good, and customers LOVE IT!
Quick questions: When was the last time you bought something? At the cash register during check do you remember if the the cashier said "Thank You". Now let me ask a second questions: When was the last time you were thanked after leaving the store? Yes it's true that in cashier training they teach you to say the ubiquitous, "Thank you, have a nice day" but that is where the interaction with the customer ends. No No NO!!! GO THAT EXTRA STEP! Send your customers a thank you note. Drop them an email. Call them on the phone. Leave a message on their answering machine. They will remember you and your business much longer and will be more eager to return to your shop if you take that small step to make them feel good. What do you get out of saying thank you? Other than a warm fuzzy feeling you should expect nothing, but don't be surprised if your customers come back, recommend their friends, buy more from you, do you a favor, bring you a coffee, give you a hug, make a donation, take you out to lunch.... I'm not saying that you have to say "thank you" but IT'S CHEAP AND IT MAKES YOUR CUSTOMERS FEEL GREAT!!!
