In the beginning of August 2008 I was doing great. I went to the gym 3 times a week for 3 hours each time. I had lost weight and had a nice tone coming. I was nicely tanned with some help of the tanning beds. I rode my motorcycle back and forth to work and to the gym. In the middle of August a leg press came down on top of my head while i was trying to get it reset to the proper location so I would be able to use the equipment. I got very dizzy and had to go home, that was the end of my workout for the day! At the end of August there had been a Hurricane in the Gulf. The Red Cross Blood Bank was looking for A+ blood. I had never given blood before, but people needed blood and I'm not the type to faint at needles or the site of blood so I decided I would go for it. We they got thru draining me of my blood they pulled the needle out and it burned. I thought it was kind of strange since this had never happened before. I began to get up the room started spinning so I told them to give me some orange juice and some cookies or crackers and I laid back and ate the cookies and drank my juice and waited a few minutes. I was fine. I stood up walked off the bloodbank and into Moe's Mexican Resturant where i was going to get me something to eat. But I needed to use the resturant really bad. I reached for the door of the ladies room and couldn't get the door open. I had to go really bad so the guy I was with said use the mens, I will wait out here. next thing I knew I was waking up on the floor in a puddle of my on urine. I didn't remember a thing. I got up and went home took a bath and went back to eat, In an hour I started passing out again. It happened about three things when I decided to call it a day and start again the next day..during the next 72 hours I was still passing out. It had me considered so I called the bloodbank and ask them is that was a normal thing and when would all my blood be restored. They told me I shouldn't be passing out still to call my doctor. The doctor put me into the hospital to run blood tests, x-rays, mris and eegs.I was told I was having seizures. I had started have speech problems, short term memory problems, no cognitive skills, muscle weakness, and my hair was falling out in chunks. By Thanksgiving I had lost 1/3 of my hair and it was still falling out. My face had started having numbness on the rightside that would come and go all day long with muscle spasms and my teeth would start grinding by theirself. My face would freeze with my right side of my mouth drooping down toward my chin. The doctors prescribed Aircept for the brain problems and it has seemed to help alot. (Some time it still makes mistakes that I may not know about so if you see these type mistakes in this blog you willl know why.) They also put me on Gabapentin to try to control the muscle spasms and Cymbalta for the Fibromyalgia, and muscle relaxer which has now been changed to Zanaflex. I got out of bed one night, after my back and neck had been hurting for weeks and my legs, buttock, back, neck and feet had been going numb off and on, then there was a big joat in my back that felt like it was pulling me to the ground, My left leg, buttocks and foot went numb I couldn't move. I waited a few minutes not moving an inch the press let up and I went to the bathroom. I went back to bed the next morning my back was in some severe bad but I thought it was just another back attack so I laid in the floor with ice and heat for 4 days then to the doctor when he gave me a steriod injection for the inflamation and then I went to chiropractor which usually helps. This time it felt a little better that day from the adjustment and shot. In acouple of days it was in severe pain again. The did an ultrasound on the hip and found tendinitis at the band that attacks the leg to the hip on the left side and put a steriod shot in it. Then did x-ray of hboth hips and mri of the lower spine. The results of the MRI was:
**** Impression: Small herniated nucleus pulposus left T12-L1
T-12-L1 Approximately 4 mm HNP is present on the left which indents the thecal sac and impinges the exiting nerve roots to a slight degree. The Thecal Scac is a thin walled tube filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that surrounds the spinal cord . CSF is the cushiony fluid that protects the brain and spine and helps distribute nutrients to these structures. No significant thecal sac stenosis is seen. Stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal. The neural foramina are patent bilaterally. Foramina are openings. Neural foramina patent bilaterally just means that the openings in the spine are open, and allow the nerves to pass through normally. Slightly Schmorl nodes formation is identified. Schmorl's Nodes are considered to be vertical disc herniations through the cartilaginous vertebral body endplates.
L1-L2 There is no evidence for any significant compromise to the thecal sac or the existing nerve roots. No appreciable thecal sac stenosis is seen. The neural foramina and lateral recess appear patent bilaterly. There is a limbus vertebra towards the inferior endplate at this level with minimal Schmorl nodes formation. A limbus vertebra is a defect in the anterior
L2-L5 There is no evidence for any significant compromise to the thecal sac or the existing nerve roots. No appreciable thecal sac stenosis is seen. The neural foramina and lateral recess are patent bilaterally. margin of the vertebral body. Results from an intra-vertebral body herniation of disc material (Schmorl's nodes is a more central herniation into the vertebral end plate) while the limbus vertebra is caused by a marginal herniation.
L5-S1 There is evidence for prior laminectomy. There is slight enhancement posteriorly on the left side which consistent with postsurgical change and scarring in the epidural space. No significant stenosis is seen. The neural foramina are patent bilaterally.
With severe pain the pain management gave me Lidoderm patches to put three every 12 hours in hip back and neck areas. Along with the Zanaflex and the Demerol the Neurosurgeon gave me you would think the pain would go away but it didn't. Two weeks ago a pain so severe shot up and down my spine then it started burning from my spine down my legs. Then no use of the legs again. Back it stuck in one position. The pain is now more severe.
After a couple of days I go my right leg back. Then I was able to use the walker again some what by walking a few steps then sitting.
They did an EMG and the scar tissue from previous surgey is wrapped around the nerve. They are scared to operate
because it may causes more severe damage. Plus I have about 50 bruises all over my body most legs that are black and the rash is coming back in arms, back and back of head.
On the way home after hearing this I thought what now. They said they will just manage my pain what is that suspose to mean?
I stopped at Walmart to get a few groceries that are easy for me to cook, since I'm home alone. As me and my friend who had drove me to the doctor were entering Walmart my wheels go stuck on the hump going in the door me and my walker went down hard the basket got bent on the walk my head bounced on the floor, my neck snapped , my rib case cracked on right side, up back strained and brusied, my right hip bone fractured a small piece of bone off and my legs and feet were tangled in the walker with my left foot getting cut on top. Now I can't even sit up or walk. My whole body is broke not to mention I am by myself.
Doctors seems to think they are missing something but they don't know what! Anyone have any clues?
