Hi Stephanie. You are correct about taking care of our own environment. When I stoop to pick up some trash in a parking lot I usually get some odd looks by people. It saddens me to see how filthy Americans are. Living in Florida we get strong winds many days and I am forever picking up trash that blows onto my lawn from neighbors with trash on their lawns. I have even seen county workers, stopped at lights, empty their ash trays next to their trucks. I take my 7 year old grand daughter shopping with me and I explain how to keep places clean. She is very cognisant of the effects of tossing trash in our environment. I came from Philadelphia in 1984 and was amazed by the cleanliness of this area. Since then the whole area has become a target for the trashaholics. Even when I have to pick up my grand daughter from school I am see parents drop their trash in the parking spaces and right at the gate where the children exit. What kind of example are the adults exhibiting to the young minds? If people received tickets for throwing trash on the streets or on their lawns maybe it would sent a message to the communities. It seems that the caring people are outnumbered by those who don`t care at all. I admire your efforts as well as all who go out of their way to clean streets and streams. They are heroic in my eyes. Keep up the good work. God bless
Hi Stephanie,
Happy New Year!
Not sure what I should do, really. I am definitely not a specialist, I have been teaching farming students for 25 years, but never became a specialist at anything. I do build canoes, perhaps I should do one on that..all a bit challenging. I've done a few bits and pieces on Wikipedia over the years, which is a wonderful facility, not sure yet how Knol will differ, and hope that it won't be in harmful competition..Like your idea about wildlife in the garden, there's lots in mine ( swans, mink, heron, kingfisher, rabbits, occasionally foxes, weasels...)
Cheers
John
Alligators ? We've nothing quite so dangerous. There are badgers a mile away, and foxes, and otters are said to be fairly close, I can't imagine what it must be like to have to consider Alligators when you are out canoeing! John
I don't think it has to be compulsory. I own apartment complexes and would be happy for anyone to set out decent looking containers for collections. It would be a great business opportunity for someone to get free materials set into a container. City run Garbage collection is very inefficient. Private can offer better service and charge less money to residents than a city op. I checked into that because Gulfport Garbage collection is so badly run.
I will set out some containers for collections if I have help to do it. I don't mind paying for the containers either. I know others with complexes that would allow us and the city of Gulfport already said we could have all the glass bottles we want delivered free. I want to build a house with them.
Although I'm not personnally interested in topiary , my girlfriend is.
I put that picture, simply because it doesn't show much of my face. I am very afraid of cyber-bullying, I was a victim 2 years ago. The picture was taken in Madeira Island's Botanical Garden, which is quite big and impressive, and has a small topiary section.
I don't know if you've ever been there already (my first and only time so far was in May 2008) but if you like gardens and flowers, Madeira is definitely one of the places to visit.
Greetings to you again , i agree on what ever you have said on global warming and things related to religion ... now its high time we start finding ways to reverse Global Warming or the causes could be extreme.. i mean see the effects.. things are really getting hampered..we need to find a solution soon...
Hi Stephanie, Thanks for your note. I do a bit of advertising with note cards and postcards for the Lakeside Art & Antiques business. There was a great little article about postcard design in Deliver magazine (Vol. 4, Issue 4, Sept 08) that you might enjoy. I'll see if I can find it on line for you. Thanks for looking and I'll keep you in mind when I need blank note cards. All the Best, Chris Madison Lakeside Art & Antiques
Hi Stephanie, Whenever I do a mailing I always use photos of the pieces that I am selling. When customers come to a show I love watching them say "Look! That's the piece in the postcard!" It seems to add a bit of "celebrity" status to my pieces making them more desirable and sort of burning the business name into their minds. Also, if someone is interested in a piece but is still on the fence about buying it I give them a postcard or a photo of the piece (with contact information on the back) to keep as a reminder. After giving out a postcard a customer came back about a year later to buy the actual piece. His wife said that he was drooling over the postcard which they had stuck on their refrigerator for a year. Advertising and marketing is a strange field! Do whatever works!
