Yesterday evening and poinsettias
Yesterday, my husband brought home some plastic for covering the outdoor plants. We covered most of the vulnerable plants, and moved some of the plants in containers in. Later, after the sun had a chance to warm everything up, I uncovered the plants, and everything except the basil seems to have survived. I went over to the botanical gardens, but they said it was too cold to do much. We might need to cover the plants again tonight because it is supposed to get cold.
There were some leftover poinsettias at my husband's work, and they were outside last night. He plans to cut them back and see if they survive. If they survive, we will plant them in a shady area. The place where we want to plant them is currently sandy and dry, so we will need to add denser soil that retains water to that spot.

Bryan, I stand corrected. I have found out from reliable experts that plastic sheeting can cause the leaves of the plants to burn if it touches them. We have a bunch of old cloth sheets that were used as dropcloths. We can use those from now on.

I know our reality of using plastic. Just like the idea and practice of old sheets at thrift store over buying new plastic. Now a pvc fence would be a definite bad thing as they are terribly toxic and just fake looking. They certainly don't last as long as they advertise either. I tend to shy away from styrofoam much more than plastic, because it does not biodegrade at all, but I am aware of the problems associated with plastic used in microwave cooking and medical care (i.e. prostate cancer). It is very difficult to live an entirely plastic-free lifestyle, with so many things made out of plastic. Plastic is part of almost every computer, for example, and many organic products come in plastic containers (Dr. Bronner's soaps being one example). We recycle or reuse most of our plastic packaging, and try to avoid much packaging in the first place. However, no matter how many glass containers we buy products in and then clean and reuse, we can't keep them all forever, and storage for plastics is limited, so we tend to recycle those too. I wonder if there is a way to live entirely plastic-free in an urban environment. I make many good decisions and choices in daily life in regards to the environment, but I am also a consumer. The society we live in today makes it very difficult to erase completely our effect on the environment. I would find it useful if you could post a link to a site or a list of ways to reduce the use of plastics and packaging in our lives. We did not have any damage to the plants from their having touched plastic. We intend to fold up the plastic sheets, store them and reuse them so they will not go to any landfill.

I like to use old sheets or fabrics for covering plants since plastic is toxic in several ways & does not work if it touches the plants.

Is an artist's "vision" primarily a product of experience or imagination? I don't want to pursue the simple answer that it's both. Is it primarily one or the other, of if it's just plain old both, how do they interact to create an imaginary world?
Is it true that some people have more artistic vision than others, or is this kind of seeing equally available to all?
